My herb garden is one of my favorite places in my home. In the summer, it grows lush and full. It smells amazing, and I’m able to grab bits of herbs for recipes that I’m pulling together. I love cutting everything back only to watch it grow in fuller. I also enjoy whipping up mint lemonade, basil pesto, and so much more.
Truly, I love taking the herbs from my garden and turning them into something special. As fall approaches, it’s nearly the time of year when I start trying to use up everything in my herb garden before winter arrives. When this time comes, I have my favorite recipes that I return to when I’m looking to clear everything out.
From tasty pesto to sweet oregano butter, here are some of my go-to herb garden recipes this year. I hope you’ll give them a try!

My basil grew in full this year! The fragrance fills the air around it. I used some of it on pizza and bruschetta, but basil pesto is my favorite way to use this herb.
It comes together quickly and tastes incredible on pizza, in paninis, or in grilled cheese. It has a shelf life of two weeks in the fridge, so I usually freeze whatever I don’t use.

I don’t use thyme for many things, but it comes back to my garden every year and I don’t want to waste it. This rosemary thyme butter helps me put this herb to use!
This butter tastes amazing on some freshly baked bread. You can freeze it if you don’t use it all right away.

Another great butter recipe, this one is sweet and herbal. I have so much oregano that comes back to my garden every year. This is a favorite way to use it!
The butter has so much flavor and tastes great on a crusty bread. You can also use these herb butters to add flavor to grilled cheese!
Of all the herb recipes I’ve tried, oregano oil has the longest shelf life of about one year. For this reason, I typically gift oregano oil to friends because they don’t have to worry about it expiring quickly.
It takes a few weeks for the batch to be ready, but the resulting oil is great for dipping bread or cooking with.

I love having mint in my garden, but it took me some time to figure out how to use it. I’m not a mojito girl, and I feel like that’s most people’s go-to. This year I found that I really love making different syrups to go in my lemonade.
This peach mint simple syrup was my favorite this year. It was great in lemonade and cocktails, and I got lots of compliments on this syrup.

I’ve been growing my own lavender for a while now, but this year I added some culinary grade lavender plants to the mix. If you’re going to use yours for food and drink, make sure you are using the appropriate variety or it could come out very perfume-y.
I didn’t grow much, but I had enough to make a few batches of lavender simple syrup for some lemonade. It tasted heavenly!
