Ikea Desk Hack: Transform the Linnmon Tabletop

Ikea Desk Hack: Linnmon tabletop with skirt added

For the past few months, I have been working on my daughter’s bedroom design piece by piece. An eyesore in the room was the desk I had sitting under the window. It was a basic Ikea desk with some inexpensive plastic storage pieces underneath. With a simple Ikea hack, I transformed this basic desk into a gorgeous focal point with feminine flair.

Ikea Desk Hack: Adding a Skirt

I knew that I wanted to add a skirt to her desk to make it look like a vintage vanity. I considered sewing the skirt out of thrifted fabric. But after searching for a while, I realized I probably wasn’t going to come across enough fabric for my project. And buying new was pricy. So I decided to purchase something premade to save myself some time.

This adorable pink striped skirt was an Amazon find. The actual skirt comes almost twice the size that you need for the Ikea table. I cut it down to the size I needed and hemmed the cut side. Note that I only covered the front and sides, not the side facing the wall. Then all I had to do was use the peel and stick Velcro strips that came with the skirt. They stick right to the edges of the desk, and then you can Velcro the skirt in place.

Ikea Desk Hack: An Easy, Quick DIY

I love an easy DIY – and this one was really simple. It all came together in less than half an hour, and the payoff was great. I recommend giving this Ikea hack a try. It’s great for a kid’s room, but could also work in a more adult space.
