Are you wondering how to find your interior design style? A comment I often receive on my interior design style is, “I never would have though to put those things together.” This is one of my favorite things to hear, because it taps into the thing about my style that I’m the most proud of: it’s originality. I don’t enjoy following trends, and I don’t want my style to look like anyone else’s.
This can be a double-edged sword at times. I sometimes wonder if it would be easier to grow my blog if I adhered to a popular design style. Also, I’m not as inspired by visiting places like Pottery Barn or Hobby Lobby because they often don’t carry things that suite my taste. I tend to find pieces for my home at thrift stores, and even then, I often customize them with a coat of paint to make them uniquely mine.

I’m not criticizing people who follow trends, but I do think that there are pitfalls of being too trendy:
If someone stumbles across my blog, I don’t want them to be inspired to copy my style exactly. I want them to think, “Wow, she really has an interesting sense of style! Maybe I can create my own style too.” Some of the benefits of developing a unique sense of style are:

How exactly do you go about creating your own style? I’ve got some tips to help you answer this question!
Then, look over them and figure out what you like about each photo. Take those things into consideration when crafting your dream home.
Even consider things that you like that may not be considered stylish or may not follow traditional rules. For example, I love the way pink and blue look together, and many people consider this color combo a no-no. But for me, the bold combination is perfection!
Is there a color that’s always been your favorite? A piece of furniture or accessory that you have admired for years? Fill your home with items like this and you’ll have a home you love for years to come! My living room is truly my dream living room, and I love the pieces in it so much that I don’t often make changes to the design. I never tire of them because they are true to who I am! Yes, I swap out my décor seasonally and make small changes to keep things fresh, but the core pieces of décor in my living room are timeless to me.
Curating your own style is not something you can do overnight. It takes practice, thought, and careful collecting. Allow yourself to build a home slowly, and consider using secondhand furniture that can be replaced easily as you slowly procure your dream pieces.

Take this advice into consideration and create your own style for your home! I’d love to see what you come up with – be sure to follow @Lauren_Rose_Home on Instagram and tag me when you post pictures of your unique designs.
