I absolutely adore creating beautiful, colorful, and unique tablescapes. It’s a fun way to craft an experience for guests that are dining in your home. I also find it to be an amazing creative outlet.

I love designing tablescapes with different color themes or holiday themes. I’ve done so many colorful tablescapes, from my most recent spring tablescape featuring cabbage plates and Blue Willow to this pink and red tablescape with depression glass that I did for Easter.
In fact, I have collected many accessories for my table that allow me to get a variety of different looks, even though I often reuse some of the basic elements such as dinner plates or silverware.
Here are my best tips for creating a fresh look on your table while reusing the basics that you already have collected. I hope this inspires you to get creative the next time you are hosting at your home!

The easiest way to create a variety of different looks is to collect linens. They store very easily and don’t take up a lot of space. Because of this, it’s easy to amass a large collection. You can have seasonal linens or linens in a variety of color schemes.
Here are the basic linens you will need to have on hand:

If you have a special set of china that you collect, use that as your base for your tablescapes. No need to have and store different dinner plates for each occasion. You can opt for neutral plates that can be paired with any color to give yourself the most flexibility. However, your plates don’t absolutely need to be neutral.
My set that makes it into nearly every tablescape is my Blue Willow collection. I have dinner plates, teacups, dessert plates, appetizer plates, and bowls. I always use my Blue Willow dinner plates as the base and pair them with other accessories to keep them looking fresh.

Piggybacking off of what I just said, I only have Blue Willow dinner plates. However, I have a variety of smaller appetizer plates that I collect. I have milk glass plates and pink cabbage plates in a smaller size that I like to layer in with the Blue Willow for a fresh look.
Appetizer plates are smaller, easier to store, and can be layered with your dinner plates to create a new look every time. Consider collecting a few different kinds to add variety.

I like to stick to the same silverware every time, so I invested in a set that I absolutely love that goes with everything. It’s a gold bamboo set from Amazon, and it has held up so well. This was a splurge, but it was well worth it. I highly recommend this gold bamboo set if you are in the market for something for yourself.
But there are really so many options when it comes to silverware. Invest in a set that goes well with your dishes and that is sturdy.

Vases are so cheap to collect from thrift stores, and I have a small collection of them that I like to use for centerpieces. It’s fun to design a beautiful floral centerpiece with fresh stems in a gorgeous vase.
Choose colors for your flowers that coordinate with your plates and linens. This will be the focal point of your table, so make sure it looks beautiful! Here are some more tips for how to arrange flowers.

Candles are a great way to add some mood lighting, plus an additional design element. Consider taper candles, pillar candles, or other candles in pretty vessels for a special touch.

Don’t forget the little extra accessories that are the jewelry of the table. Collecting these special pieces can add something extra special to your tablescape designs.
