Doily DIY Project: Snowflakes and Ornaments for the Holidays

By , October 24, 2025

This blog is already full of my ideas for repurposing doilies. This simple winter or holiday doily DIY project is so easy and so beautiful! I used a little fabric stiffener and a lot of doilies to create some pretty snowflakes that can be hung on the window or on your Christmas tree.

Doily DIY Project: Repurposed Tablecloth

For this project, I repurposed a doily tablecloth that had some damage to it. I simply cut the doilies apart to separate them. But you can also just use regular circular doilies to create your snowflakes.

Doily DIY Project: Where to Find Doilies

Doilies can be found at thrift or antique stores, yard sales, or even your mom or grandma’s collection. For projects like this, I try to use doilies that don’t have a lot of sentimental value. I like that I was able to use a damaged tablecloth for this project. I felt like I was giving something new life rather than ruining it.

How to Decorate with Doily Snowflakes

These doilies can be used in multiple ways. You can hang them in a window as snowflakes, turn them into Christmas tree ornaments, or string them together to create a garland.

Without further ado, here’s how to make DIY doily snowflakes!

Supplies

Directions

  1. Lay your plastic tablecloth over your work surface. Lay out all your doilies flat on the tablecloth.
  2. Open your fabric stiffener and apply it to the doilies. I actually poured my stiffener in a circular pattern on the doily. Then using my hands, I scrunched up the doily and got it coated with the stiffener. Then I flattened out the wet doily onto my plastic covered surface.
  3. Let dry according to instructions on fabric stiffener bottle. Once dry, you can loop ribbon through to make an ornament or just hang it on a window with some scotch tape. You could also create a garland using a long piece of ribbon, stringing along multiple doily snowflakes.
