How Interior Design Helped Me Cope with Mental Illness

Interior design has a deeply rooted place in my heart. As a teen, I remember plotting out the details of my own room, drawing detailed illustrations in help in the planning process. It was very “shabby chic,” with silver and light blue being the main colors. Despite this, it wasn’t until I was much older that I truly began to fall in love with design and find my own style. I’ve always been a bit of a tomboy, so as a young adult my style reflected this. I also went through a heavy metal phase where I was really interested in black and studded everything. But at some point, things…

Home Tour: My Colorful Maximalist Living Room

The room of my home that is the most complete and that best represents my style is our living room. When we first moved in, I tried to make the living room a blend of my style and my husbands. The result was not something that brought me joy. There was a lot of grey and it wasn’t really coming together in a way that made me happy. After a while, I gave up on trying to incorporate my husband’s style and focused on creating something that reflected me. Truthfully, my husband doesn’t care what our house looks like, as long as there is a comfortable sofa facing the tv.…

DIY Gold Framed Art: Butterfly and Doily

Something I always like to keep an eye out for at thrift stores and yard sales is gold frames. I love the classic traditional vibe that they add to my space. I scored these two frames from different yard sales for a steal. I kept them in my decor stash for a while, but recently inspiration struck and I was able to put them to good use. The smaller frame had no backing, so I took a piece of cardboard cut to size, some fabric, and hot glue. I used hot glue to wrap the fabric around the cardboard and then glued the fabric rectangle to the frame. I added…

Reflecting on One Year With Our Beautiful Lexi Girl

It’s hard to believe that come July 6, our precious baby girl will be a year old. It might sound like a cliché, but it seems like only yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital. 9 pounds 3 ounces, dark hair on her head, and deep brown eyes. As she’s grown, she’s gotten more beautiful with each passing day, in my opinion. As I look back on photos of her, she’s changed so much in such a short amount of time, and I’ve fallen in love with each version of her. About a month and half after returning to work, I made the decision to become a stay-at-home…

Things I Didn’t Know About Motherhood

Motherhood is an experience that is both challenging and rewarding. Despite having many friends who became mothers before me, and despite listening to them tell me about their experiences, there was absolutely nothing that could have prepared me for the reality of motherhood. There were parts that were way more difficult than I anticipated, but there are also parts that are so much better than I could ever have imagined. I’ve only been a mother to baby Alexa for just under two short months, but in this brief time period I’ve experienced so many highs and lows. Here are some of the challenges I’ve encountered in this journey so far!…

On Weight Gain and Body Acceptance

Over the past few years, I’ve put on a lot of weight. It actually started with a medication that I had to take for bipolar disorder. One of the side effects was that I put on a few pounds. But it wasn’t until recently, when I got pregnant with my first child, that the weight really started to pile on. During my pregnancy, I was a bit overwhelmed at the rate at which I was gaining weight, and it was hard to prevent it from happening. I was constantly hungry, and as my pregnancy progressed, I replaced going to the gym with more leisurely walks because I was constantly winded…
