Faux Orchid Thrift Flip: How to Repot a Floral Arrangement
I recently embarked on an out of state thrifting adventure with my husband and daughter. We drove around Pennsylvania to some thrift stores that we like to visit from time to time, including Second Avenue Thrift Superstore and Goodwill. On the trip, one of my favorite scores was this potted faux orchid. According to the sticker on the bottom, this was originally from Pottery Barn and was selling for $50. I got it for just $5! This is definitely considered a steal in my book.
I love orchids, but whenever I buy real ones they always end up dying after a few weeks. I was excited to score this one because it looks pretty realistic and it was so affordable. The only problem was that the brown pot really doesn’t match my taste. I wanted to repot this orchid in a blue and white porcelain pot that I thrifted from Goodwill.
How to Repot the Faux Orchid
It was pretty easy to pull the faux orchid out of the foam in the old pot. I then cut some green floral foam to size and placed it in the new pot.
To hide the foam and create a pretty base for the orchid, I took some green moss from my floral stash (I think I got it at Dollar Tree a while back. I used hot glue to attach the moss to the foam.
Finally, I pushed the florals into the new foam and moss. And voila! The project is complete. The end result is a chinoiserie chic potted orchid that perfectly fits my style. I think this new pot and fresh moss looks even better than the old one!
